If you have a Sony laptop, there are going to be four elements that you will want to know about Sony replacement laptop batteries. It is important to know what to do when your battery can no longer be charged and you must decide what to do with that old battery, you will want to know what easy steps you can take to extend the life of your battery and finally, when it is time to purchase a new Sony replacement laptop battery, you will want to know how to save money. Let’s discuss these important details for any Sony owner.

Sony Replacement Laptop Battery

If you have a Sony laptop, there will come a time when that rechargeable battery can no longer hold a charge. Many laptop users wonder why it is that a battery can only be charged so often. It is hard to imagine that a battery can have a memory, but in a way, it does. Each time that it is charged, it loses a bit more of that memory until it reaches the point of having none. At that time, it will not take any more charges and will be considered to be dead. The average life span of a laptop battery is between two and four years.

Sony Replacement Battery

Therefore, at some point you will need to dispose of your old battery and get a replacement. When it is time to do so, it is highly suggested to not just throw your laptop battery away in the normal trash. This is considered to be hazardous material and should be disposed of in the proper way. Facilities have been established nationwide in order to make it very easy for a person to drop off a battery so that it can be recycled. Elements from older batteries are used to create new ones. This helps everyone and certainly helps to keep the planet clean.

Now, there are several techniques that are very easy to do, which will extend the life of your Sony battery. One of the things that you can do is to shut off any programs that you are not using on your laptop. For example, you may have opened Firefox to quickly look at the weather and then have it running in the background while you type in Word. As it silently runs in the background, it is taking power from your battery. Therefore, closing down any program that you do not need will help. It is also a good idea to routinely defragmentation your computer. It is suggested to do this every few months. Another step that you can take to extend the life of that battery is to keep it clean. Many laptop owners do not think about the dust and debris that can affect a battery. Taking a soft cloth and a dab of rubbing alcohol across the area of the battery where it connects will help keep it clean and extend the life.

Now, no matter how hard you try, your battery will eventually need to be replaced. You may be tempted to simply jump at the first replacement battery that you see, especially if your old one died without much warning. However, it will pay off to look around and comparison shop. There are many good deals on Sony replacement batteries, from discounted batteries to coupons that will help out your wallet. The Internet allows for very easy comparison shopping and when it comes to your Sony replacement laptop batteries, this is not an exception.

Along with the pleasure of having a laptop computer comes the inevitable time when you will have a laptop battery that has reached the end of its life. Should you toss it out or is there a better alternative? As the news spins about stories of global warming and we all hear about how landfills are filling up faster than anyone can handle, “going green” has never been so popular. There if you have a Sony laptop, take a moment to find out the simple ways you can help out by recycling Sony laptop batteries and how this can benefit not just the environment, but you personally, as well.

Sony Battery

If you own a Sony laptop or notebook computer, you should know about the ways in which your old battery can be recycled before you head toward that trash can. You may be tempted to simply throw away a battery that is no longer of use. Nevertheless, the next time your battery dies on you, take a minute to think about how you can “go green” with this, before you simply toss it out.

Your Sony laptop battery can be recharged many times, however with all such batteries, there will be a time in which the battery has been fully discharged and recharging simply does not work anymore. When this happens, the battery will not be able to be used any more. As with just about all types of batteries, Sony laptops batteries are harmful to the environment. If just tossed away with everyday trash, this will have a detrimental effect to the environment. In a world that is going green more and more each day, anyone who has an old battery should learn about the very simple methods of taking that battery and making sure that it is recycled and not thrown away.

Sony has made this easy for their customers and has set up very easy to read information which is accessible from their main website. This points people to their Rechargable Battery Recycling Corporation website. As with most major corporations, Sony is taking big steps to make recycling easy for all who are involved. As the public wishes to green, corporations follow.

There is a national program that has been set up called Call2Recycle. This program is helping thousands of people help the environment by recycling their Sony laptop batteries in the easiest way possible. Since this program has been incorporated, more than forty million pounds of batteries have been recycled.

With green being the way to go, there are over fifty thousand drop off locations all around the world. The goal is to make drop off as simple and easy as possible. Places such as supermarkets, home good stores, convenience stores, schools and other places designate themselves as locations where you can bring your old battery and they will take care of the rest. If you are not sure if there is such a place close to where you live, a fast search on the Internet will be able to let you know. Additionally, your local city hall or other such local government should be able to offer you a list of choices.

It may not seem like doing the right thing with one battery would make a difference. However, one must keep the big picture in mind. Joining forces since the inception of Sony’s recycling program has collected forty million pounds worth of batteries. This is a great amount considering the ten to fifteen minutes it may take a person to dispose of the batteries in this way.

Nowadays we have become again witnesses of new recalling Sony battery packs for laptops in amount of 100,000 pieces. This recall is referred to 2.15Ah lithium-ion cell batteries which had been sold for HP, Dell and Toshiba devices.

The notice made by U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission that states they have received 40 reports of battery overheating. The recall covers also Inspiron and Dell Latitude units sold about three years ago. It was quite a surprise for Sony as they did not sell the batteries directly, they were sold by PC makers, electronic stores and online retail dealers.

Sony Laptop Battery

The reason of overheating is flaws in the PC and separate batteries sold outside the United States. And Sony report a number of incidents have occurred because of smoke and flames, some minute damage, flaws in the electrodes metal foils and small burns. There is an opinion that due to some adjustments in Sony’s manufacturing line, taking place in 2004-2005, from which the quality of cells in certain products suffered. Sony also say that only a small part of laptop battery packs were recalled which were sold within last six years. And it is almost nothing compared with 10 million Sony batteries sold to several major computer manufacturers in 2006-2007.

The request of U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for the manufacturers is to remove and replace the damaged batteries.

Sony Inc. said the recall involves 19 models in the Sony Vaio TZ series manufactured between May 2007 and July 2008. Two years ago, several computer makers were forced to recall almost 10 million notebook batteries made by Sony because of possible overheating. That recall cost Sony about $430 million.

Sony said that over 400 devices had been affected worldwide. Five people suffered minor burns in Japan and one each in the US and Italy.

It said that 373,000 of the notebooks were sold in 48 countries, including the USA, and the remaining 67,000 in Japan.

“Sony takes the quality of the products its sells very seriously and makes every effort to ensure that the products it develops meet all relevant regulations and standards. We sincerely apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.”

In 2006, Apple, Dell, IBM/Lenovo and Toshiba were among several major notebook manufacturers which recalled a total of 9.6 million Sony li-ion batteries after evidence that, in certain circumstances, the battery could overheat and catch fire.

Sony officials said at the time that the problems were caused by microscopic metal particles that mistakenly got inside the laptop battery, causing short-circuiting.
